EXPRESSES SYMPATHY ON DEATH OF BUXTON PARTY
ACTIVIST MAURICE COLE
The People’s Progressive
Party expresses its deepest sympathy to relatives of its party activist, Mr.
Maurice Cole from Buxton, East Coast Demerara. Mr. Cole was a PPP/C councilor
on the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 4, Chairman of PPP Buxton
Group, member of the PPP Regional Committee and Buxton/Friendship neighbourhood
and Democratic Council (NDC) works committee.
The late Mr. Cole was associated with the party while in England and on his return to Guyana he continued to serve the movement with major inputs in the general elections of 1992, 1997 and 2001.
He was admired for his consistent struggle for peace, democracy, transparency and accountability. His valuable contribution to the party will be missed because of his unique approach in dealing with issues and the support he garnered from individuals including his family.
His death has saddened the members of the PPP with whom he had an excellent working relationship and was known as one of the most vocal and respectful comrades.
The role he played as a community activist should be patterned by those who want to demonstrate loyalty and patriotism to their country. His actions were premised on self-less grounds as he often demonstrated compassion and care for the plight of others.
The PPP is greatful and proud for the role he played in local politics, community development and general service to his country. The party hopes his family and friends can be comforted by the record of his outstanding work and service.
