The People’s Progressive Party notes with understanding the protests that have been taking place since the brutal terrorist murder of eleven innocent people, including five children.

The hurt and anger that are being expressed on the streets are felt by our whole nation. This horrible act has shocked everyone.

The People’s Progressive Party shares the pain of our people and mourns with those in so much grief at this time.

At times like these it is very important that we do everything to maintain calm, despite our hurt and anger. We should avoid all actions that would give the perpetrators of this terrible deed any satisfaction that they have succeeded to sow such great mayhelm in our society.

The PPP is of the opinion that forces e.g. religious bodies and civil organizations can assist in bringing some level of tranquility in the situation.

The media can also play an important and constructive role by avoiding the temptation to further sensationalize an already difficult situation.

In the light of this tragic event the PPP calls on one and all to remain calm and to be steadfast against all criminal acts.

While the Party understands the anger if finds it fortunate that some unscrupulous persons are using this grave situation to push forward hidden agendas for personal benefits or for other political ends.

The Party calls on all Guyanese to be united in the face of terrorism. Every decent minded persons is terribly distressed with what occurred.

We urge all Guyanese to stay united and not to allow criminals to affect the integrity and unity of our people.
