The People’s Progressive Party wishes to express its profound grief at the shooting to death of two policemen and the injuring of three others at the Brickdam Police Station yesterday, March 01, 2004. The law enforcement officers were peacefully going about their business when this tragedy struck.
This incident must be viewed seriously since it’s coming so shortly after the criminal onslaught which started with the notorious five escapees from the Georgetown Prison.
The atmosphere that was created by the political opposition when they campaigned against the police. Obviously, those deliberate attempts to demonise and attack the police still have an effect in some quarters.
The PPP wishes to urge that every measure be taken to ensure that out law enforcement officers are respected in the society. Those who unjustly attack the police must know that their actions have serious consequences.
The PPP wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the Commissioner of Police, the Police Force as a whole and to the families and loved ones of Superintendent Richard Griffith and Lance Corporal Ramnarine Latchana who lost their lives in the unprovoked attack.
We also wish those officers who were injured a full and speedy recovery.
